What is Guitar Hero?

What is Guitar Hero?Guitar Hero Logo

Guitar Hero is the ultimate party video game series, where you and your friends/family can form a band and rock out to all your favorite classic rock songs. Guitar Hero uses custom guitar shaped controllers to simulate playing a guitar and in later versions, starting with World Tour, added a microphone and drum set, although a standard console controller can be used in early versions. Players score points by matching colored notes that scroll on the screen to the colored buttons on the controllers. Even though it was designed to be a party game with competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes, there is also support for single player mode. Guitar Hero games are available on several platforms including Playstation 2 and 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PC, Mac and Nintendo DS.

The popularity of Guitar Hero caused other music video game spin-offs to be created including Band Hero, which included more family friendly pop music and the DJ Hero series which simulated being a DJ using a turntable style controller. Guitar Hero was first published in 2005 by RedOctane and developed by Harmonix. As of 2011, Activision officially put any further development of the series on hiatus.

TomTom Rider 1 and 2 Power Button Hard to Push

TomTom Rider GPS Stiff Power Button

If you have recently purchased a TomTom Rider or Rider 2 GPS, you may have noticed that the power button is pretty hard to push.  We have heard from a lot of customers that think the GPS is bad and won’t power, but it could just be that the button is not being pressed hard enough.

Reason for the insanity

The reason the power button on the Rider series of GPS is so difficult to push is because it was designed to be waterproof.  It is generally used on motorcycles and therefore often comes into contact with the elements.  Having the button so stiff also makes it difficult to turn the GPS unit on accidentally in your pocket or bag.

Our Suggestion

We suggest using a pen or some similar hard object to push the button with, this will save on the pain in your fingers.

Locating USB Nano Receiver for PS3 Warriors of Rock Guitar

In this article you will find instructions for locating your wireless USB nano receiver for the PS3 Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock guitar.

Finding the guitar wireless USB nano receiver:

Warriors of Rock Guitar Silver Button Picture

Step 1: Referencing the photo above, there is a tiny silver button located just above the strummer on the neck of the guitar.  It is on a black plastic panel cover that measures about 8″ long.  Pushing that silver button down, slide the panel cover in the direction of the arrow (or towards the strummer).

Step 2: Once you slide the cover panel, pull the cover toward you to reveal the secret compartment in the middle of the guitar.  The arrow in the photo is pointing at the wireless guitar receiver dongle that is plugged into its holding compartment.  The universal USB logo with an arrow is printed on the plastic just above the dongle to remind you where to secure it when it is not in use.

Step 3: Remove the dongle from its location and plug into your PS3 system to wirelessly sync the guitar.  The photo above shows what the USB nano receiver dongle looks like, which measures only about 1″ in length.

How To Connect 2 Foot Pedals for Double Bass Pedal on Rock Band

Here I’m going to explain for all you drum enthusiasts, how to connect two drum bass pedals for use with the Rock Band video game.  I will be covering two possible ways to accomplish this.  Note that this method will also work in some Guitar Hero games as well.

Double Bass Pedal Y Cable

Picture of Double Drum Pedal Cable

Double Drum Bass Pedal Y Cable

The first option is a simple Y cable that will allow the signal to be split between two bass pedals.  The male end of the cable would plug into your bass pedal port as normal and you would plug each bass pedal into the two female ends of the cable.  The downside to this method is that there is a limit to how fast it can go.  When one bass pedal is being held down, the other pedal will not register, so the first pedal will have to be released before the second will register a kick.

Double Bass Pedal Splitter

A second option available is to get a powered pedal adapter box.  This would be setup similar to the Y cable, where the adapter would be plugged into the normal bass pedal port and each bass pedal would be plugged into the adapter box.  The benefit of this method, I believe, is that it eliminates the issue with the Y cable, where it won’t register two kicks at the same time.

So, there you have it, two methods of getting double bass pedal action working with your Rock Band video game, Happy Drumming.
